Oh, Hey There

Hi Friends.

Man, it feels hard to start a post after not writing one for months. It’s not that my writing skills are rusty. Quite the contrary. I’ve actually been writing more than ever. I just don’t know where to start! So, well, here we go.

It’s true I’ve been writing a lot, and I love it. I started writing for WGM – World Gospel Mission– back in September. I get to write lots of different kinds of pieces: interviews, cool lists, stories, and different reports from around the world. Most of the pieces are for WGM’s blog, and others are for our print publication, The Call. I also get to experiment a lot with Instagram and Facebook and Twitter since taking over as social media coordinator for them. There are two things I adore about my job. One, I get to write. I never imagined getting to call myself an actual writer. Seeing staff writer behind my name in print is pretty amazing. Two, I get to stay super connected to what WGM is doing around the world. I was worried when we came back to Minnesota last summer that I would lose touch with what was going on with our friends – many who feel like family – are doing all across the globe.

Pete and I just finished our second semester of seminary. It felt like a pretty big accomplishment. This last semester was not easy. That’s probably a big reason I didn’t post here. When I was done writing for work and then writing for class, I just didn’t have any writing left in me. We took a theology class and, holy moly, that was a lot of deep thinking. That’s not typically the way my head works. I much prefer an artsy, creative approach to learning, but theology isn’t really built that way. Not in a seminary class, anyway. We read a pretty good stack of books and wrote multiple papers in our three months of class. I’m so happy we took this class, even though it was tough. One of the big reasons we’re doing seminary is to dig in to what we believe and be able to articulate it. We’re taking the summer off to just do summer, and then we’ll pick up again in the fall. One or two classes at a time is enough on top of the rest of life, so that’s what will continue to do until we work through the master’s program!

Today the kids finish school for the year! I’m pretty excited to have them around a bit more, though this is the first summer I’ve had to make arrangements for them so I can work. I’ve always just been home with them during the summer months. We’ve got lots of fun adventures planned, though. Yay, summer!

Does it feel like summer yet up here in Duluth? Um, I’m going to have to say a big NO to that one. We had snow just a few weeks ago and it’s still 50-60 degrees each day. We have been out riding bikes and having picnics, but it will be lovely when the temp goes up a bit. I wouldn’t mind if that happened in the next week.

I could go on and on and on right now, but I’m going to wrap up this post and not overwhelm you with details of all the things. Instead, I’ll save it for the next post.

Do you have any fun plans for summer?? What will you be doing?!
