Sammy Turns Six!

Can you believe this kid is SIX?! It’s true! One May 24, we celebrated with balloons and treats, and then we had a big birthday party the following weekend with our missionary family. If you know Sam, you know his very favorite food in all the world (and he’s been around the world!) is ice cream. With his current love of the Toy Story movies, particularly of Buzz and Woody, we tied the two together and had a big Toy Story Ice Cream Party!

cluck cluck cluck…They’re here!

Five years after he promised I could have chickens in Kenya, Pete came through on his word. We have hens! Mother’s Day weekend brought five laying chickens to our coop. I went to sleep on Friday night and woke up to their little clucks on Saturday morning. Pete had arranged with his friend to bring the girls by during the night so I’d be surprised. I had no idea they were coming!

Did I forget to mention…We’re home!

Did I forget to post that we’re back home in Kenya?? If you’re following our journey on Facebook or Instagram, you’ve already seen us back at Tenwek, but I realized I haven’t posted it here! Sam and I made the long trip back to Kenya last month, arriving around the 15th. It’s hard to know exactly what day it was after all the time changes and jet lag.

Healing

It’s hard to believe that Sam and I arrived in Minnesota four weeks ago. We had thought this would be a much shorter visit, but we’re thankful to have been able to get all the medical care Sam has needed. In my previous post, I shared that Sam was scheduled to get his tonsils and adenoids removed and that the ENT would also check his ears at that time. Surgery went well and we’re incredibly happy that Sam simply needed a new set of tubes to fix his hearing. Praise God!

Merry Christmas From Kenya!

card from Photo Affections

After many years of dreaming, we’re thrilled to be sending our Christmas greetings this year from Kenya! Though it feels quite different from what we were used to in Minnesota, we’re fully enjoying the holiday season. Here the temperatures are in the 70s, we’re surrounded by green grass, and most stores in the city have only one small aisle of Christmas treasures. We’ve spent a lot of time observing how our new friends celebrate during this season, and we’re looking forward to joining them at the Christmas Eve and Christmas morning church services to celebrate the birth of our one true King.

As you celebrate Jesus’ birth this Christmas, we pray you will experience His love in an entirely new way. May you deeply feel the joy and hope of this incredible season!

We wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Warmly,
Pete, Angela, Ella and Sam

A New Tradition: Gingerbread Houses

One of the great things we’ve discovered in living here at Tenwek is that there are some pretty fantastic traditions we get to add to our holiday season! Yesterday we participated in the annual making of gingerbread houses. I found a great recipe and printable template here and constructed Ella’s base for decorating the night before.
